Bunheads canceled by ABC Family
Jul 22 2013 06:51 pm CET

Sorry folks, the dance is over. ABC Family announced Monday it will not be renewing Bunheads for a second season.

The show was about a former showgirl (Sutton Foster) who marries a guy on a whim and escapes to a quiet ocean town in California. When he gets killed in a car accident, her life basically starts over and she becomes a teacher at her mother-in-law's ballet studio. The show was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who also created Gilmore Girls.

The dramedy found a small but incredibly devoted audience when it debuted last summer. Although it received a backend order to finish out its season this past winter, ABC Family took a long time to deliberate whether it could justify the costs of a second season.
