This is what's on TV Thursday, July 18, 2013.

Mandela: Freedom's Father

BET – 8pm – BET celebrates the former President of South Africa's 95th birthday with this documentary. Although Nelson Mandela has been out of office for close to 15 years, the man who helped to dismantle apartheid is still a source of inspiration for millions in South Africa and around the world. Happy Birthday!

Project Runway

Lifetime – 9pm – The fashion competition begins its twelfth season tonight. They won't be doing the all-team format this time around, for good or for ill. The first twist will be that one of the contestants has competed on the show before. It's not Daniel Franco, is it? The first challenge will take place on the runway (at the airport), with the designers making fashion out of parachutes. Hold all MC Hammer jokes until you get on to Twitter this evening, please.

AMC – 10pm – The small town talent show series wraps up its first season tonight. The show visits Hugo, Oklahoma. What acts will entertain us this evening?
