Paula Abdul and Erin Andrews to Guest Judge So You Think You Can Dance

Fox announced Monday that former American Idol and The X Factor judge Paula Abdul will be one of the guest panelists on Tuesday's episode of So You Think You Can Dance. She will join Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and fellow guest judge Erin Andrews.

Despite her professional relationship with Lythgoe due to their shared stint on Idol and her expertise as a choreographer, this will be the first time Abdul has guest judged the summer dance series. She will also be the first choreographer to sit on the SYTYCD judging panel this season.

However, it is unclear why Erin Andrews would be joining the panel this week. With nine couples still competing, having a fourth panelist means that all evaluations will be pressed for time. Also, Andrews comes from the sports world, and her connection to the dance world (if any) is not immediately apparent. Either that or the show had to double book to accommodate the special guest. Either way, it will be fun to see Cat Deeley interacting with Paula, especially if the judge starts to offer one of her trademark meandering critiques.

So You Think You Can Dance airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Fox.
