MTV Cancels Buckwild, Will Air Special Sunday

MTV announced Wednesday it will scrap the second season of reality series Buckwild following the death of cast member Shain Gandee. A special about the series, already produced before the announcement, will air Sunday.
Gandee, 21, and two others were found dead in a car in West Virginia at the beginning of April during what was believed to be an off-road "mudding" excursion – an activity featured prominently on the MTV program. Buckwild also featured hard partying, as the show was viewed as a successor to Jersey Shore.
The second season had an eight episode order, with four episodes already completed. Executive producer J.P. Williams took issue with the cancellation in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter. He says no explanation was provided for the decision, and as recently as last Friday the show was still a go. He intends to complete the series and self-finance a film.
MTV will air a marathon of Buckwild followed by a special recapping the series as a lead-in to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.
