Tonight's television celebrates movies and TV at the Golden Globe Awards. Meanwhile, both HBO and Showtime have new Sunday night slates debuting. Here's what's on TV Sunday.
Starting things off tonight is the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards on NBC. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host this year's event, which should be amazing given their contributions to every other awards show the last several years. Jodie Foster will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her body of work, plus we get to see a whole bunch of celebrities get drunk. It should be a fun evening, which begins at 8pm Eastern.
The other major events tonight take place on premium cable. HBO brings back two of its comedies for sophomore seasons. At 9pm, the ever-controversial Girls returns with birthday parties, romantic awkwardness and opinions from every TV person on the planet. At 9:30pm, Enlightened begins season two with a healthy dose of corporate espionage.
Over on Showtime, the entire Sunday night slate is filled with season premieres. Shameless returns for its third season at 9pm, with everyone getting used to new living situations. At 10pm, House of Lies is back for season two, and the entire corporate culture has been upended due to the the sexual harassment scandal. Following at 10:30pm is the sixth-season premiere of Californication.
