Tuesday TV: 2013 Rose Parade, Dance Moms, Totally T-Boz, Dual Survival, Hawaii Life

Happy new year, everybody! Recover from last night's shenanigans with the 2013 Rose Parade, the season premieres of Dance Moms and Dual Survival, and the series debuts of Totally T Boz and Hawaii Life. Here's what's on TV Tuesday.

First, a PSA. January 1 is when many carriage deals go into effect for cable operators. You may want to do a channel scan on your TV to see if new channels are available, if old channels now have HD counterparts, or if some channels are no longer on your system.

As far as programming goes, the first big event of the day is the 2013 Rose Parade from Pasadena, California. Jane Goodall is the Grand Marshal for the event, celebrating its 124th year. This year the theme is "Oh, the Place's You'll Go!" from the Dr. Seuss book of the same name. That should lead to some interesting float designs. Coverage begins at 11am Eastern on ABC, NBC, Hallmark and HGTV.

Primetime cable is where the new programming is at tonight. Lifetime will kick off the third season of Dance Moms at 8pm with a preview special, followed by a new episode at 9pm. Discovery will have a similar programming strategy with the third-season premiere of Dual Survival, also with a preview at 8pm and a new episode at 9pm.

If the latest batch of winter storms has made you long for a tropical climate, HGTV has a new series for you. Hawaii Life follows real estate agents as they help families find perfect homes in the Islands. It sounds like those episodes of House Hunters International where you can't help but resent the people looking at homes in Fiji, no matter how pleasant the buyers may be. The show premieres with back-to-back episodes at 9pm.

Finally, TLC has a new slate of programming for Tuesday night. At 8pm, Totally T-Boz follows the ups and downs of the T from 90's R&B group TLC. At 9pm, The Sisterhood gives us a peek into the lives of preachers' wives. At 10pm, Sin City Rules moves to a new timeslot.
