UK broadcaster ITV announced Friday it has ordered a fourth series of its hit period drama Downton Abbey.

According to the press release, the series will feature eight episodes plus a Christmas special. Also, the premiere and finale episodes will be "feature length" as the Downton Abbey story proceeds through the 1920s. The series is scheduled to begin in Fall 2013.

For those of us Stateside who haven't watched the third season through methods, we still have to wait until January for the third season to air on PBS Masterpiece Classic. The fourth season is also cleared for airing in the US, most likely starting in January of 2014.

This year's Downton Abbey Christmas special will air on ITV at 9pm GMT Christmas Day.
