Emmys 2012: Damian Lewis wins Best Actor in a Drama, Claire Danes wins Best Actress

Showtime's Homeland scored a major upset in the Best Actor in a Drama category, with Damian Lewis earning his first Emmy Award. The program also won Best Actress in a Drama, courtesy of Claire Danes.
Lewis beat out heavy competition from AMC to claim his first acting award. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston had won the award for his work as Walter White in the first three seasons of the show. Kyle Chandler won last year for his work on Friday Night Lights, leading many to believe Jon Hamm would be able to claim the award this year for his work on Mad Men. "I'm one of those pesky Brits," Lewis said at the beginning of his acceptance speech.
Homeland scored a one-two punch with Claire Danes winning the award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. This is Danes' second Emmy, winning previously for her role in HBO's movie Temple Grandin.
Homeland returns for its second season next week.
