Eric Stonestreet, who plays Mitch on ABC's Modern Family, claimed the first award of the evening at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The category for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy featured all four adult male cast members on Modern Family, as well as Bill Hader from Saturday Night Live and Max Greenfield from New Girl.

Stonestreet thanked fellow nominee Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays his spouse on the ABC comedy. "There's no Cam without Mitch," Stonestreet said during his acceptance speech. He added, "I never knew I'd be on TV as a gay man, but I love the pictures of hairy chests [the fans] send me."

This is Eric Stonestreet's second Emmy Award. He won in 2010 for his work on the first season of Modern Famiy.
