Big Brother 14 Wednesday September 12 Episode Recap: Surprise Eviction

Sep 12 2012 11:52 pm ET

Wednesday's Big Brother 14 featured both the Power of Veto and an eviction as the Final Five become four. Two Houseguests win the chance to meet the Gold Medal US Gymnastics Team and we find out who wins the HoH that guarantees a spot in the Final Three.

Previously on Big Brother 14: There was a double eviction last Thursday. Dan won the 40-minute Head of Household and tried to get Ian out. Ian won Power of Veto, so Dan tried to boot Shane. Danielle talked him out of it, so Danielle and Joe were on the block. Joe went home. Ian won the next Head of Household and nominated Shane and Jenn.

Julie Chen tells us it is Day 68 in the Big Brother House. She summons the Houseguests to the living room, surprising everyone. Shane needs to put on pants. "Sorry to intrude, but Eviction Night has come early to the Big Brother House," Julie tells the cast. We then get treated to flashbacks since the Nomination Ceremony on Day 63. Of note: Danielle is over the Shane showmance (guh, I hate that word).

The Power of Veto competition takes a page from The Glass House. The players have to leap across the yard to a platform with a button. Hit the button and a puzzle board gets magnetized for 20 seconds. The player has to use that time to assemble the puzzle and re-hit the buzzer before time runs out, otherwise the board resets. There's also a time limit to re-magnetize after a reset, otherwise the player is out. Ian falls victim to the clock and helps Shane win the PoV.

Shane also wins a bonus prize: a meet-and-greet with the US Women's Gymnastics Team. He chooses Danielle for the excursion outside of the House. The whole encounter is awkward: Shane pretends to know stuff about gymnastics; the gymnasts think Danielle and Shane are dating. McKayla Maroney explains her meme, so that's fun.

As for the Veto, Shane is not a dummy and uses it to save himself. Ian talks about his rational self-interest and decides it would not be a good idea to give a known couple both votes, so he nominates Danielle. Later, Julie asks for speeches from the nominees. Jenn says it was an unbelievable summer, and has much love for everyone. Danielle says she had a great time this summer and agrees with Jenn that they will be BFFs. Voting happens and Jenn is evicted unanimously. As she leaves, Jenn says "the winner's in this room, so keep it fun and keep it classy. And burn this place down." In her exit interview, Julie presents Jenn with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, now that Jenn is no longer required to be on slop.

The Head of Household competition is the standard step-up/step-down true/false quiz. The quiz is based on photos the HGs saw earlier in the day. We see the photos as Julie asks the questions, so recapping the questions isn't particularly helpful. Dan and Danielle tied after the seven-question quiz. The tie-breaker question: In the time flies Veto competition, how long did it last? Dan guessed 626 seconds, Danielle guessed 155. The answer was 584 and Price is Right rules means Danielle is the new Head of Household.

Danielle is guaranteed a spot in the Final Three. Tomorrow on Big Brother 14, we find out who Danielle nominates, but it's really the Power of Veto that will determine who stays and who goes. The last eviction before the finale will happen by the end of the hour. So exciting!
