Big Brother 14 Sunday September 2 Episode Recap: Pandora's Box Can Suck It

Sep 02 2012 09:42 pm ET
On Sunday's Big Brother 14 we learn who wins the Head of Household competition. Dan still has some damage control to do, but finds he may actually have survived last week unscathed. Also, Pandora's Box makes for a holly jolly distraction.
Previously on Big Brother 14: Frank won Head of Household, which really screwed things up for the Quack Pack (ugh). To wit, Dan and Danielle found themselves on the block. After Jenn won the PoV, Dan endured 24 hours of solitary confinement where he devised the "You're Dead To Me" master plan. Step two of the YDTM plan involved Dan aligning himself with Frank by selling out Ian and Britney. As a result, Dan, Danielle, Frank and Jenn are in a tenuous alliance, with Dan getting pulled off the block and Britney going up in his place. Despite Ian's attempts at talking tough to Frank, Britney ended up evicted.
Tonight's episode begins with the continuation of the Head of Household competition on Day 55. As you may recall, Joe was knocked out two minutes in and Jenn dropped out three minutes later. Also, Joe received a punishment for being the first out, which in this case was 24 hours of Hula Hoop boot camp. This will be the only mention of such punishment.
With Joe and Jenn out, it's only the Quack Pack (ugh) left in the competition. We see a clip from five hours prior where Ian tells Dan he intends to ride the alliance to the end. Dan uses this as an opportunity to patch up things with Shane post-YDTM. Shane accepts, which means Dan is now the belle of the alliance ball.
Back to the competition, Danielle does not enjoy the spinning around the sun while also rotating on her swing. She gets queasy and decides to bail at 34 minutes. Dan tries to dangle to avoid the battering ram on the course, but this strategy is short-lived as he falls at 42 minutes. Ian starts spitting out factoids about the solar system and looks like he could do this competition for days. Shane is barely hanging on, so he asks everyone else to go inside so he and Ian can have a deal conference. Ian promises Shane and Danielle's safety, so Ian becomes the new Head of Household at 1 hour and 56 minutes.
In the bathroom, Danielle tries to have a whispered conversation with Shane, who is showering off the goop from the challenge. He thinks Ian will put up Frank and Joe, but Dan is a wild card. Meanwhile, Frank and Joe chat in the bedroom, with Joe suspecting Jenn and Dan going on the block. It's sad that Joe is Frank's only glimmer of hope. Later, Jenn meets with Danielle to discuss bed rearrangements for the week. Jenn thinks Danielle and Shane should hook up and Danielle agrees. The last time there was any smooching between the two was when Danielle won the Pirate Ship HoH competition. Get the hint, girl.
Next we get the HoH Room tour. Even though this is Ian's second tenure, this is the first time he gets treats from home. Many of the treats are nerdy, science-based knick-knacks that everyone else has to fake an interest in. Frank DRs he actually wants to feel happy for Ian getting to enjoy stuff from home, but the bad blood makes it tough. Also, it is really tough to fake an interest in bismuth. Sorry, BISMUTH!
Later, the Quack Pack (ugh) has a meeting to figure out where everyone is standing. Ian says he plans on nominating Frank and Jenn. After this meeting, Frank comes up to the suite to chat with Ian. Ian warns Frank to sweat a little bit. Frank works his standard "I want to work with you" strategy. Ian does raise the consideration that Frank doesn't get to play for HoH next week (a consequence from last week's PoV competition).
The next day, Ian is invited to open Pandora's Box. The temptation is for the best Christmas ever. Ian decides to accept, which means he won all of the prizes under the PB Christmas Tree. Many of the prizes are things Ian would legitimately enjoy, such as a telescope, chemistry sets and $1,000. Meanwhile, the rest of the house is subjected to musclehead Jessie, dressed as an elf, rummaging through all of their junk food and removing anything he disapproves. Danielle sums up the whole incident in the Diary Room: "Pandora's Box can suck it."
Dan and Ian discuss the gameplan for nominations. Ian still wants to nominate Frank and Jenn but he isn't sure who he wants the true target to be. Ian likes the idea of Frank being ineligible for the next HoH, plus he's a meat shield – though Joe is the only alternative in that scenario. Dan really doesn't like the idea of Frank sticking around. "If Frank makes it to the end," Dan muses, "are you kidding me?"
Nominations. It should come as no surprise Ian follows through with nominating Frank and Jenn. He praises Frank for being a phenomenal competitor but a huge threat. He tells Jenn she has a remarkable social game, also making her a threat. In the DR, Ian says the nominations arte 99% strategy and 1% vengeance.
On Wednesday's Big Brother 14: The Power of Veto is back up for grabs. One Houseguest will not get to play. Will the Veto be used to save Frank or Jenn?
