Big Brother 14 Wednesday August 22 Episode Recap: Soak in the Sweetness
Aug 22 2012 10:06 pm ET
On Wednesday's Big Brother 14, Shane throws Britney under the bus as she avoids naming Ian as her source of information. A candy-based Power of Veto competition makes things a little less sweet from Shane's point-of-view as he may need to replace Frank or Mike.
Previously on Big Brother 14: Shane, Danielle, Britney and Dan are in two superalliances. Shane won the Head of Household competition and with floaters in the house this could easily be a housekeeping week. However, Ian told Britney that Mike plans on going after her and Shane, so the Quack Pack (ugh) solidified while the Silent Six sank. A mystery box showed up in the arcade, spooking Shane. Despite this potential setback, Shane went through with nominating Mike and Frank.
Day 42. Frank DRs he felt blindsided by the nomination, but Mike speculates there's a chance both of them could stay in the house. Ian is happy with the outcome of the nomination ceremony, so long as the nominees never find out his role in the shenanigans. In the bedroom, Mike and Frank try to figure out who got in Shane's ear. Their prime suspects are Britney and Dan.
The two nominees head up to the HoH suite to ask Shane what happened. Shane says he heard things from people and had to act. Mike is not satisfied with that answer and pushes for a name. Shane blames it on Joe. Mike laughs in Shane's face because SERIOUSLY. Shane admits he maybe gave too much deference to Britney but Dan is not to blame. Way to sell out your coach, Shane. Mike and Frank are open to trying to work with Shane down the road to try and undo this situation.
The guys leave and Britney gets some one-on-one time with Shane. He recaps the conversation and Britney is justifiably unimpressed. First, she doesn't appreciate having all the blame sent her way. Second, Britney has to spend the week doing damage control thanks to Shane wimpy behavior. She heads down to the bedroom to begin the damage control. Britney rehashes what she heard about Mike, but he and Frank don't buy it, at least not right away. The problem is Britney won't name her source (Ian), so the guys are now speculating Dan was the one who got Shane's ear.
Britney meets up with Shane again in the arcade. She tells him she had to quit her job and leave her husband for three months to play the game again and Shane's gutless move totally hosed her. Shane says he was trying to protect Britney while keeping his hands blood-free. Britney calls BS on this, as she should.
Later, Dan and Mike are talking in the bedroom about the secret source conversation. Dan says he had nothing to do with it, so Mike proposes continuing this chat in front of Britney and Frank to figure out where in the middle the truth is hiding. They head up to the HoH room to join Frank, Britney, and Shane. Mike begins the deposition asking who gave Britney the info. Britney says she doesn't want to reveal her source, then asks if Mike ever said what she thinks he said. "Yeah, eventually," Mike answers. On the one hand, yes, you do have to have that conversation at some point. On the other, which Britney points out in the Diary Room, why doesn't Mike remember who he said this to? Assuming he only said it to Ian, there's his answer. Dan swears on his wife it wasn't him, but Frank doesn't buy it. Frank and Mike leave unconvinced with Shane following them out the door. Dan asks if he should take the heat for this so Britney doesn't get burned, though he's getting tired of protecting Ian. Britney argues that Ian is a major source of information, but agrees there may be long-term consequences. Dan wonders if Ian would take this level of heat for either of them.
Power of Veto time. Shane draws Jenn while the nominees both draw Houseguest's Choice. Mike picks Ian and Frank picks Ashley. They head to the backyard, which has been transformed to Candy World. It's the annual bean counting Hold or Fold competition. Each round will feature guessing the number of candies in a specific object. Players who Fold sit out the round, but get to stay in the game. Of the players who Hold, the one who is closest gets a point and the one furthest from the answer is out of the game. The first player to three points or the last one standing wins the Veto. Frank won the first two points, knocking out Mike and Jenn. Shane gets the next point, knocking out Ian. Ashley, who inadvertently exercised the smart strategy of always folding until you become the middle option, won the next point, knocking out Shane. However, she decided to fold on the final point, giving Frank his third point by default and awarding him the Veto.
With the Veto outcome certain, Frank and Mike try to stage a coup in the house. However, that means rounding up Jenn, Joe and Ian and begging them to get Shane to put up Dan as the replacement nominee. As scrambling goes, this isn't necessarily a bad strategy. However, if the floaters are thinking, they know the other side is starting to cannibalize, so keeping your head down may be the way to go. Mike still gives it the college try, attempting to turn on the waterworks while talking to Britney. She see through Mike instantly. Meanwhile, Jenn tries to convince Shane to put up Dan. Oh, honey.
All the pitching to nominate Dan was for naught. Frank takes himself off the block and Shane replaces him with Jenn. Mike thinks he has two votes (Frank and Ian) and would only need two more to stay in the house. Ian is probably going to get exposed soon.
Thursday on Big Brother 14: Either Jenn or Mike will get the boot. Then, it is a Big Brother Fast Forward night where a second Houseguest will be sent packing by the end of the hour. Also, we will be trying a new liveblog client (last one, I promise), so be sure to tune in to our live coverage at 9pm Eastern!
