Big Brother 14 Week 3 Episode 2 Recap: Three Ring Circus

Aug 01 2012 10:01 pm ET
On tonight's episode of Big Brother 14, Janelle has to scramble to help save either Joe or Ashley from the nomination block. Shane and Britney weigh their options between Mike and Janelle. The Power of Veto goes to the circus – who becomes the ringmaster?
Previously on Big Brother 14: Shane won Head of Household and has officially joined forces with Danielle. Eh. Dan and Britney want to knock some fear into Mike and Janelle. Shane has a side deal with Frank, so the plan is to get rid of Wil. However, Janelle won the Coaches' Competition and immunized Wil. Janelle tried to forge a deal with the HoH, but Frank and Mike got Shane's ear just before nominations. It was a gametime decision, but Shane nominated Ashley (BOO!!) and Joe.
It's Day 21 in the Big Brother House. Shane explains to us he didn't want to burn bridges with Mike and Frank, and he wanted to get rid of one of Janelle's players, so this was the move to do. In the Diary Room, Joe shares his dismay. "I'M AGAINST ASHLEY AND I AM THE BIGGEST TARGET IN THIS HOUSE RIGHT NOW." Ashley uses her inside voice to express her sadness at being nominated. Britney and Janelle have a heart-to-heart. Britney knew Joe was going to go up, but had no idea who the other nominee would be. Janelle remains calm through the conversation, saying there are no hard feelings and she still wants to work with Britney and Shane. Janelle also shares her concern that Shane doesn't know how dangerous Mike can be. Britney DRs that Janelle is playing this situation extremely well. Dangerously well.
The two coaches split up. Britney and Shane debrief. Although Britney didn't appreciate not knowing what was going to happen, Shane has set things up nicely in terms of mitigating repercussions. Meanwhile, Janelle meets with her team in the arcade. Janelle advises them to talk to Shane, even though they don't want to. She tells Joe specifically that he needs to make Shane feel safe. This bristles him even more than being nominated, but Joe heads up to the Head of Household suite to play ball. It doesn't go well. Joe opens by praising Shane's strategy adding "I want to work with you – you're the strongest player here." Shane see through the ploy, but smiles and nods. Joe realizes he isn't making progress and starts to say how he really feels. In short: being nominated sucks.
Time for the Veto Competition. First, Shane and the Nominees draw for players. Shane picks Danielle, Ashley gets Wil, and Joe pulls Frank (the one person he didn't want). Shane picks Jenn to host. This week's competition is set at the Big Brother Circus. Each player will have to balls and two ramps. The players have to run back and forth, keeping their balls rolling on the ramps. If a ball touches the ground, that player is out. Blah blah blah, Shane goes 3-for-3 in Veto wins.
Britney and Shane celebrate their good fortune and limitless options for about 30 seconds before Team Janelle (sans Joe) descends on the HoH suite. Janelle pitches getting rid of Frank, not only because he is going to be Shane's biggest competition, but because the current nominees aren't going to win anything so why not keep them around a little longer? Shane is open to the proposal, but he wants safety. Janelle takes off her wedding ring, hands it to Britney and says she will guarantee their safety for three weeks or they can keep her ring. She's also willing to throw in her Chanel earrings, but Britney and Shane would rather not be responsible for physical objects.
Later, Janelle tells Joe he needs to talk to Shane again and kiss a little butt. Joe doesn't like it one bit, which Janelle understands, but if Joe doesn't do it, he will be going home. Joe goes up to the HoH suite to try to work with Shane. Persuasion is not Joe's strong suit, which might explain all the yelling. He says he knows Wil is Janelle's pet, so he is willing to take out his own team and sign his loyalty over to Shane to last a little longer in the game.
Dan, the Coaches, Shane and Danielle get to enjoy a Sushi Party that Dan won in the Coaches' Challenge. Meanwhile, the rest of the house parties it up in the kitchen to celebrate Wil's birthday. The sushi party actually breaks up early because there is a lot more fun going on inside the house. A game of Spin the Bottle breaks out, resulting in smooches between Janelle/Jenn, Ian/Ashley, and Shane/Danielle. Surprisingly, this is the most middle-school thing to ever happen on this show.
After the parties, Ian and Britney are outside cleaning up. Britney notes this is one of the few opportunities she has had to talk game with Ian, so she asks if Ian would put up Shane if he won HoH. "That's not a foreseeable circumstance," Ian replies. Britney tries to get clarification, but is met with the same response. I think Ian is actively avoiding becoming Head of Household, but Britney reads the response as Ian being squirrely. Britney relays her conversation to Shane, who says he is growing to distrust Mike. Shane and Frank discuss things in the Arcade, with Frank explaining Ian is generally kept in the dark until the last minute. Shane says he is concerned that Ashley will get the boot if he doesn't use the Veto. Frank agrees Ian could be a liability and suggests nominating him as a wakeup call.
Veto Ceremony. The nominees offer pleas that aren't particularly insightful. Shane opts to use the Veto on Ashley (yay!). He adds that he is now playing on his own, so he has to make decisions that best benefit him. Therefore, Shane nominates Frank. In the post-ceremony Diary Room, Frank is a little surprised but knows not to panic. Shane says Frank is the target. Mike is annoyed.
Tomorrow night on Big Brother 14: Danielle will likely be the deciding vote as to whether Frank or Joe goes home. The Coaches will learn if they will become players in the game. And a new Head of Household will be named (though if the Coaches enter, expect an endurance challenge).
