Big Brother 14 Week 3 Episode 1: The Coaches hit the gym; Team Janelle hits the bricks

Jul 29 2012 09:21 pm ET

On Sunday's episode of Big Brother 14, Shane is at the center of every conversation as the new Head of Household. Frank and Wil are the top targets, but Shane's side deal with Frank makes the outlook not so good for Wil. The Coaches compete and two Houseguests are nominated.

Previously on Big Brother 14: Willie got thrown out of the house, allowing Frank to decimate Team Britney. He put up Shane and JoJo for eviction. Shane won the Power of Veto and took himself off the block. Frank put up Danielle, the last player on Team Dan. Shane decided to cover his ladyfriend bases by flirting with both women heavily and openly. Word got around and Danielle used this middle-school betrayal to campaign against JoJo. JoJo's personality also campaigned against JoJo and she was voted out of the house 5-1. Shane went on to win Head of Household, so he's having a pretty good week.

Day 20 and JoJo is now out of the house. Frank is happy with how the week went: two players out, one of them a powerhouse and one that was annoying dead weight. Yeah, that's a good week. Frank also has a sorta deal with the new HoH Shane, so maybe this week will also be stress-free.

Joe is not as pleased. "SHANE WINNING HOH WAS A TOTAL BUZZKILL," he says in the Diary Room. Later, he, Wil and Jenn hang out in one of the bedrooms. Wil expects it to be a tough week for Teams Mike and Janelle. Mike is in the room and pretends to agree with the gloomy vibe. He reminds us that he and Frank have a side deal with Shane, so it should be an okay week for them.

After the HoH tour (which the whole house has grown weary of), Joe and Wil expect to be the targets this week. Back in the HoH room, Britney, Dan and Danielle chat with Shane. Britney and Dan both try to push for Frank, but Shane rejects it outright. He doesn't offer any reasoning why you wouldn't try to get rid of one of the strongest players in the game, but neither of the coaches pushes the issue.

The next morning, Joe decides it is time to kiss butt. He makes an elaborate breakfast for Shane and delivers it to the HoH suite. Of course, one of the perks of Head of Household is getting to sleep in past 9, which Joe ignores. Shane is all, "um, great, I guess?" The food looked good, just poorly thought out.

Between stories of Ashley's Dream Board (think The Secret) and Jenn's coming out story, there is more strategy regarding Frank. Frank talks with Shane and they agree Wil makes a good primary target for this week. Later, Danielle chats up her boytoy about the need to get rid of Frank and possibly Wil. Shane tells Danielle he has a sorta deal with Frank but hints that nothing is set in stone. Shane is not helping the reputation of those who identify their work as house flipper. Danielle has no worries because she totes has a Final 2 deal with Shane. Oh honey. The two of you are like Xander Crews and Grace Ryan. And if you get that reference, we should be besties.

Time for the Coaches' Competition. This week, the competition takes place in the Big Brother Gym. There will be three stages featuring different exercises. The Coach who performs the fewest reps of the given exercise will be out but gets to claim a mystery prize. The first exercise, called the Booty Scooty 6000, is a seated row/pelvic thrust. It's horrifying to watch. Britney gets knocked out and wins the privilege of naming two Have Nots. Ian volunteers again (his strategy is purely martyr-based) and Britney mistakenly thinks Joe has not been an HN yet and gives him the experience. Oops.

The next challenge is the Hip-2-Hip extreme, which requires the players to move their hips to slap buzzers on two sides. Janelle, who has used her child-bearing hips to bear a child, has a distinct advantage over Mike and Dan. Mike gets knocked out and wins $10,000 to divvy up with two other players. Mike gives himself $6,000, and Frank points to his teammates for the rest of the cash. Ian gets $3,000 (and tears up a bit, aww) and Jenn gets $1,000.

The final challenge is the Tongue Trainer Elite. Dan and Janelle each have two minutes to move a switch back and forth with their tongues. This is not good television. Dan does not have good tongue technique. Did I mention I went to Sunday school with him? He loses, but gets to go to a Sushi and cocktail party with five guests of his choice. Dan chooses the coaches, Shane and Danielle. Janelle wins the challenge and chooses to give Wil immunity.

With the primary target safe, Janelle and Joe hold a conference with Britney and Shane. They want to work with Shane next week and hope to come to some sort of arrangement that keeps Janelle's people safe. Later, Mike and Frank hold a similar conference and would like to see Joe and Ashley (No!) nominated. Britney would rather have nominees from Teams Mike and Janelle on the block, but Shane isn't sure what he wants to do. Big Brother summons Shane to the Diary Room because it is time for him to begin filming for Nominations. Britney and Shane chats some more, but no decision is reaches as BB continues to summon the Head of Household. Shane enters the DR and Britney realizes "Oh my God, I don't know what he's going to do."

The ceremony begins. Wil is safe thanks to the Immunity. Finding their keys in the box are Jenn, Ian, Danielle and Frank. That means Joe and Ashley (BOO!) are nominated. Shane says Team Janelle has not been on the block yet and they should feel the pressure of being the only team on the block. I don't disapprove of the strategy, but maybe laying it out so explicitly isn't the best PR move. Ashley cries in the DR. Joe: "I AM SHAKING MY HEART RATE'S UP IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG."

Wednesday on Big Brother 14: The Power of Veto competition and Ceremony. Also, you still have a chance to vote on letting the Coaches become Houseguests. It will happen either way, so look at this as the opportunity to sign up to be the one to take the blame when the season goes awry. Because that also will happen.
