Big Brother 14 Week 2 Episode 1 Recap: Free Willie

Jul 22 2012 09:31 pm ET
The Summer of Insanity continues on Big Brother 14. Willie starts to experience the repercussions of his reign of terror last week after the Coaches Competition. And one Houseguest goes too far and gets expelled from the game. Take a guess who it might be!
Previously on Big Brother 14: HoH Willie nominated Frank (Team Mike) and Kara (Team Dan) to force the coaches against one another. Willie wanted to play with Frank, and they planned on working together. Meanwhile, Willie's coach Britney developed a theory that, based on the typical calendar for the Big Brother game, the coaches will probably enter the game at some point. Willie used this info to meet with all the newbies to set up an anti-coach movement in case Britney's theory proves true. This made Frank nervous about his longevity and decided to cut ties with Willie. Willie flipped out, but the sum of his antics allowed the house to justify voting out Kara over Frank. If that wasn't enough good news for Frank, he also won Head of Household. Before the hour ended, Julie announced that the winner of this week's Coaches' Competition has the option to swap a player rather than granting immunity. Ooo.
We rejoin the house on Day 13 just after Kara was evicted by a 5-3 vote. Frank is glad it wasn't a tie because Willie would have sent him home. Janelle is happy because the Willie/Frank dynamic is a good one to keep the house distracted. Ashley is happy because she can take on the Under the Radar role. The only person who isn't happy is Willie since he is fairly certain his days are numbered.
In one of the bedrooms, Frank and Mike do a happy dance celebrating the double dose of wins. The two do a Chilltown 2-Shot in the Diary Room, but without Dr Will it feels more put-on than usual. Willie pouts. Elsewhere, Janelle tells Britney Willie needs to go, adding in the DR that the alliance is on shaky ground. Britney reveals her embarrassment about her choices leading up to Willie's reign of terror. Everyone, particularly JoJo and Shane, are trying to distance themselves from the former Head of Household. Later, Frank the new Head of Household takes everyone on the tour of his new pad. It's your standard HoH Tour, but one of Frank's gifts is a bright yellow shirt which reads "Julie Chen is My Homegirl!" Awesome.
After the tour, Willie and Britney meet in the side lounge to debrief. Actually, is less a debriefing than Britney delivering an "I'm very disappointed in you" lecture. As you might expect, the disappointment doesn't seem to penetrate, with Willie reminding his coach that ultimately this is a solo and not team game. "I'm here to tell you you're doing a terrible job," Britney responds. Britney is awesome.
After a bit of flirting between Danielle and Shane (ugh), we rejoin Britney with Mike and Dan in the living room. The three discuss the upcoming Coaches' Competition where a potential swap could occur. Mike tries to convince Britney it would be in her best interest to not saddle one of the other coaches with Willie if she wants to keep Shane and JoJo safe. Of course, given Britney's track record with challenges, the concern is probably unfounded. However, after a significant amount of filler (including Ian and Ashley's "slop date," which happened when Kara was still in the house), JoJo and Shane meet with their coach to reiterate the team needs to cut Willie loose.
Coaches' Competition time. Frank busts out of the Diary Room in a cheap-o Flava Flav getup. The challenge has a 90's hip hop theme for the sole purpose of putting the coaches in Hammer pants which include full diapers. In this challenge, the coaches have to move stacks of money from one end of a balance beam to the other and then stack them on a pedestal Jenga style. If a coach or money stack touches the ground, that coach is out. The first coach to complete her/his stack and buzz in wins the challenge. The diaper pants forces the coaches to sidle on the beam, but no one really loses their balance. Britney takes an early lead, but the adrenaline gets the best of her and she knocks a couple stacks to the ground. Since Dan plans on throwing the competition, it has come down to Mike and Janelle. Mike finishes his Jenga tower first, but in his arrogance he steps off the beam while taunting before buzzing in. Even Frank is like "dude, for real?" Janelle finishes her stack and buzzes in correctly. She decides not to swap and grants Ashley immunity. As for the Have Nots, Janelle doesn't hesitate before choosing Willie and the rest of Team Britney (JoJo/Shane) and Ian volunteers for the fourth slot. He's an odd duck.
When the Houseguests return to the kitchen, they are welcomed by this week's Have Not snack options: pudding and pork rinds. That's actually not a bad set of snacks. I mean, you don't have to eat them together and pork rinds can be tasty. However, this is just one more item to add to Willie terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. He tries to rally JoJo and Shane, but Britney intervenes, telling her two sane players "he's dead to us." Dang.
Willie is pretty riled up at this point and decides to give the people gathered in the HoH room a piece of his mind. Britney is exhausted by Willie's antics at this point and asks in vain for him to chill out. Frank enters the HoH room and tells Frank, Mike, Janelle and Joe that punishing his teammates was uncalled for and that he promises to get evicted before getting voted out. I think he meant expelled, but whatever, the threat is dumb. Willie heads to the Have Not Room where JoJo grouses about her situation. She tells her teammate she can't associate with him anymore for the sake of her own game.
Willie returns to the pile of pork rinds and continues to stew. Britney continues her lecturing, but Willie doesn't want to listen. Joe comes down for a drink and heads towards the bathroom. Willie taunts Joe as he walks past and Joe mumbles something in response. This sets Willie off and he chases down Joe, getting in his face screaming "what did you say? What did you say?" Joe is in a defensive posture and Ian(!) – who just got out of the shower – tries to separate them. The show cuts to commercial and when we return we see Willie shoulder slam into Joe. According to transcripts of the live feeds from Friday night, Willie allegedly headbutted Joe four times and threw pork rinds at Janelle. None of this was show – on air or the live feeds – but it seems odd for people to embellish for no reason. Anyway, Big Brother directs Willie to go to the big bedroom and for everyone else to stay put. After a few moments, Willie is directed to go to the Diary Room where he is then asked to follow someone out a back door. Allison Grodner, the executive producer for Big Brother summons the HGs to the living room to inform them that violence will not be tolerated and Willie has been removed from the game.
For those of you keeping score at home, this is episode 5 and we are down to 9 players. At this pace, we should be done with the show by the end of the month. Yikes. Next time on Big Brother 14: we find out who Frank nominates and if the Power of Veto will change those nominations.
