Thursday TV: So You Think You Can Dance, Duets, Geo Bee 2012

Welcome to the summer TV season! And what better way to welcome warmer weather than with some friendly competition? So You Think You Can Dance is back, ABC adds Duets to the singing competition circuit, and did someone say National Geography Bee?
First up, So You Think You Can Dance is back for its ninth season on Fox at 8pm. The show has some major changes in store this season, including a reduction to one episode a week (BOOOOOO!) and naming America's Favorite Male and Female Dancers. Tonight the auditions kick off in Dallas and New York – we'll have the recap posted Friday morning!
Over on ABC, the network tries to re-enter the competitive singing genre once again (after the disaster of The One a few summers ago) with Duets. (OMG IT'S) Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke are both judges and competitors in search of singing talent to partner up with in this series. See how the talent stacks up starting at 8pm, followed by the season premiere of Rookie Blue at 10pm.
Finally, the 24th Annual National Geography Bee has jumped from PBS to the National Geographic Channel. Alex Trebek hosts the event where students in grades four through eight answer questions about rivers, mountains, and landmarks that even Carmen Sandiego hasn't heard of. I'm not joking when I say I have a DVR dilemma, because this two-hour special also airs at 8pm.
