American Idol Hollywood Week Recap: Final Performance
Feb 22 2012 10:22 pm ET

As American Idol’s Hollywood week draws to a close, the contestants take to the stage one last time in the hopes of securing a place in the top 24. So who has earned the right to go to the live shows? Let’s find out shall we?

We begin with Jen Hirsh who sang “Baby I Love You” for her final performance. The judges didn’t seem all that impressed, so let’s see where she stands. After making Jen sweat she’s given good news! We will be seeing Jen next week on the live shows.

Next to get the news we have Creighton Fraker, who sang “New York State of Mind.” It sounded amazing, though we don’t get to hear much of it. Creighton is so IN! Was it ever in doubt, this guy could win the whole thing!

Lauren Gray was the next contestant to take the hot seat. For her final performance she chose “I’d Rather go Blind.” I adore this girl’s raspy low voice, she’s amazing! But what do the judges think? Lauren did not make it this season, but the judges encourage her to try again next year. BOO!

Up next we have Joshua Ledet, who sang “Up to the Mountain” for his last performance, which sounded amazing, but a bit over the top. After sitting nervously and going through a cruel speech from Randy implying that he didn’t make it, Joshua received the good news that he’s made the live shows.

At this point there’s a mini montage of contestants that failed to make the cut Both Naomi Giles and Gail Seivers were sent home. You’d think with a two hour show tonight and another hour on Thursday, they’d be able to give each contestant the time and respect they deserve to receive their results. Rude!

Haley Johnson was up next, she made the cut, but the show failed to show us any of her final performance. Um, okay.

Next up we have Neco Starr, who sang “The Lady in my Life” for his final performance. I’m not sure he sold me over the course of Hollywood week, and evidently the judges felt the same as he was sent packing. Also going home we have Caleb Johnson, Crayton Farhat, River Saint James.

Elise Testone was up next, she sang “This is a Man’s World,” for her last performance and she killed it! Funny I don’t have much of a memory of her from the auditions. Regardless, she made the cut! Lucky for me, I just discovered this talent.

Up next we have Reed Grimm, for his last performance he sang “It Don’t Mean a Thing if You Ain’t got that Swing,” and once again he played the drums and killed it! After making poor Reed sweat a bit, he’s sent through to the live shows!

Erika Van Pelt was next up on the hot seat. For her last performance she sang “Don’t You Remember,” by Adele, but the judges weren’t impressed with her performance. I tend to agree that it wasn’t the right song for her however, her low throaty voice is amazing. Her earlier performance of Pink’s “Glitter in the Air,” sold me on the spot! But was that enough? Yes it was, she’s in the top 24!

Country girl Chelsea Sorrell forgot the words of her final performance though Steven took pity on her and let her begin again. Is it too little too late? No it’s not, she’s made it through to the live shows.

Our other female country crooner Bailey Brown sang “Here’s Comes Goodbye,” as her final performance. She was a bit pitchy at times, but she certainly has a strong voice. And clearly the judges like her because she’s heading to the live shows.

Rickie Law (aka Cowboy McJerkface) was next up, he sang “Ring of Fire,” for his last performance. And praise the Lord, he has NOT made the top 24! Phew, I might have thrown something at the television had he made the cut!

Super sweetie Heejun Han was the next contestant on the hot seat. For his last performance he sang “New York State of Mind.” I absolutely love this guy, he’s the most fun contestant of the season by a mile, though he’s certainly not the best singer in the competition. But who cares, he’s made it in the top 24!

16 year old Jessica Sanchez was next up to hear the news. For her last performance she chose “The Prayer,” she sang with soul well beyond her years, she was amazing! And she of course made the top 24, duh! Contender alert!

Next up was Phil Phillips, he sang “I’ll Treat You Right.” He gave a solid performance that showcased his perfected growl. And he is moving on. Welcome to the top 24 Phil Phillips (I just like saying that).

Colton Dixon was next on the chopping block, he sang “Fix You,” dedicated to his sister who has already been cut from the competition. He gave an emotional performance that rang true. Colton was cut from the competition at this point last season, could it happen again? No way, he’s in the top 24! And to think this kid wasn’t even going to audition this year, but the judges pressured him into it, crazy!

Brielle Von Hugle was the next contestant up, she too was cut from the competition last season. For her last performance she chose a very strange arrangement of “Killing Me Softly.” This time around she makes the cut.

Last up tonight we have family man Adam Brock, who sang “You Don’t Know Me.” I thought he gave a solid performance, however the judges weren’t overly impressed. Adam is overcome with emotion when he faced the judges, succumbing to tears. So what will his final verdict be?

Who knows because this is where the show ends tonight! Do you think they want you to tune in tomorrow? Yes, I think they do. Thursday night we will conclude the nonsense that is the audition period of this show, so be sure to check back here for all the highlights.
