Project Runway All Stars Recap: Good Taste Tastes Good
Jan 26 2012 10:29 pm ET

Last Week: As much as I loved Miss Piggy, clearly many of the designers had a different definition of "love" as they created outfits that were quite questionable, especially Rami's 80s dress. At least Rami was having fun because Gordana made a nightie and was sent home.

The contestants celebrated in the apartments for Michael's win, but the happiness was short lived as the contestants met with Angela and she explained that the challenge would involve "Good Taste." The contestants would have to create clothes inspired by Gelato with a cart from "L'Arte del Gelato." The contestants would pick a flavor and get a swatch. To prevent Angela from actually doing work, Michael went first and picked the next person, they picked the next, and so on.

Michael - Grapefruit
Mondo - Cantaloupe
Mila - Milk & Sour Cherries
April - Blueberry
Jerell - Fruit of the Forest
Kenley - Passion Fruit
Austin - Vanilla with Madagascar
Anthony - Green Tea
Rami - Kiwi
Kara - Chocolate with Cayenne Pepper

To further explain the challenge as the contestants ate their ice cream Diane Von Furstenberg walked out. Michael almost died as his ice cream melted. Then Diane said nothing involving the challenge at all, I get that she's great and could just grace us with her image, but seriously? No real tips? Any story about eating gelato in Central Park getting inspiration? Angela announced that the contestants only have six hours, though there was no real reason why. I would have devised a story where the contestants and their models would have to go out to a bar to impress Diane or someone this evening. Diane explained that they should just go from their gut inspiration, but still needed to be fabulous. Angela explained she'd see them later that night. The contestants would have 30 minutes to sketch. Kenley decided to just make something typical that she could probably just pull from her own personal closet. Mini Mood was created so the contestants wouldn't have to travel, sadly there was no black. Why wasn't there black? With time up, Mondo didn't have enough material, or so he says.

There was a lot of panic as time was running out right as it began. Michael decided to just drape an outfit immediately as Jerell thought Michael was making something too easy. Kara was worried about her color palate. April decided to go Willy Wonka (something else that Tim Burton ruined) with "Violet turning Violet" after she ate the blueberry. Everyone's gone delusional as Kenley was giggling. Mila proved that she could work with non-black/white. Suddenly, Michael found out that he measured wrong. Kara continued running and sewing as she laughed in nervousness.

Joanna arrived for her evaluations and Kara had her multiple layers of colors. Kara's pressures seemed okay. For April, she decided to stay comfortable. Joanna pointed out her hemline issues. She talked to Mondo about accessorizing the outfit with a cool belt and pumps. Anthony maintained his reasoning for having pow and still be the same. Austin was warned to not be bridal. Rami was called out for making a wrap skirt for the "Wrap Skirt Queen." Mila's interpretation was a little too literal. Michael was complimented for being so fast and warned not to glue in desperation.

It took me a week to realize that Michael C's model is Leslie from Season Six of America's Next Top Model and as the models arrived for fitting Michael talked to Leslie and she managed to get a few words out. Austin had to turn to using the glue gun. Kenley made a lot of the same. Rami needed more time. Mundo decided to cut part of the back to make a cool change. April's dress didn't fir her model, but she didn't have any fabric. After the models left, the contestants ran like crazy. The challenge started to split as half of the contestants seemed closer to done as the others.

There was no time left as the contestants finished their outfits, got it on the models, and accessorized the girls with the Neiman Marcus accessories. Of course, there was also hair and makeup. With only 30 minutes left, the proportions of Kara and April's dresses were off. The other contestants had to sew in the models. Granted, Anya did that all the time and she won.

Angela greeted the contestants and along with Georgina Chapman, Isaac Mizrahi, and Diane Von Furstenberg, and sexy Aussie Miranda Kerr. In an awful voiceover we found out that Miranda would wear the winner's dress...eventually outside at some point at some "Industry Party."

Mondo - I totally get it: It's like a split of the cantaloupe. The flow was great, the back was a great touch, and the belt surprised me.
Anthony - I liked the top, which is very Anthony with the geometrical shapes. I wished that the bottom was either a better color or maybe more of a gradient.
Kenley - She made the same exact clothes that she always does, but it was really fit well to the model's proportions. I mean it wasn't offensive, but it wasn't a standout
Rami - I get that it's a Kiwi, but it's really ugly. Too many layers on top threw my eyes.
Mila - The mod inspiration is okay, but I could see the beige popping out of her bottom and that's a total no for me.
Jerell - Jerell continues to make very Jerell clothing, still looking a lot like the handkerchief dress that he made.
Kara - The bottom was so heavy that there was a huge juxtaposition between the flat top and puffy bottom. The layers seemed uneven.
Michael - I loved the flow of the dress, except for the fact that she looked a little bit fatter than I expected.
April - The color was wonderful and the colors picked up on camera really well. The skirt was obviously short in the back.
Austin - Austin made a very elegant dress with a Greek undertone.

Angela first called Austin, Rami, Jerell, and Kenley: they were all middle pack. The best designers were Mila (Direct, nice layers, looks made too quickly), Michael (Lacked a tart tone, but very fluid) and Mondo (Moved well, great back). The bottom contestants were Kara (Good explanation, unflattering), Anthony (Creative, but too conceptual, needed to be simple), and April (Nice colors, too ambitious, "Halloween Spider Thing"). The winner was between Michael and Mondo with Michael taking another win. Somehow Miranda's breasts will fit...somehow. The eliminated contestant was April which brought her to tears.

Next Week: Begging for clothes? Kenley wandering around and talking too much.
