American Idol 11 Recap: Galveston Edition
Jan 26 2012 09:24 pm ET

Our friends at American Idol hit the road again, this time traveling to Galveston, Texas in search of the next big recording artist (or the next artist to be dropped after one album). So is everything bigger in Texas? Let’s find out.

The Good

17 year old hunter, Skylar Lane auditioned with the Pistol Annie’s’ “Hell on Wheels.” She is a solid country singer, and she’s moving on to Hollywood ya’ll.

Baylie Brown was eliminated in Hollywood 5 years ago and is back for redemption, she auditioned with “Bed of Roses.” She sang it beautifully, and is heading to Hollywood.

At 29, this is Kristina Osorio's last year to try and make the cut. After having 3 kids, her musical aspirations were put on hold. She’s currently going through a divorce and is struggling to find work as well as being a single mom. She auditioned with an Adele song, and did a decent job, good enough to send her to Hollywood.

Cortez Shaw has had a rough life, raised by a single mother that struggled to provide for the family, they found themselves, at times, homeless. All of this only made Cortez strive for more. He auditioned with an up-tempo version of Adele’s “Someone Like You," which sealed his fate and his ticket to Hollywood.

Worship leader, Ramiro Garcia was born without ears (literally), doctors told his parents that he would be deaf and mute for life. At age four Ramiro had the first of many surgeries to create ears, which finally enabled him to speak and hear. He auditioned with a soulful rendition of “Amazing Grace,” causing Steven to say “I like what I’m hearing and I also like your insides,” (man I love Steven).

On a sidenote, many talented singers were turned away by the boys, while some less talented contestants were sent through, causing Jennifer to have a mini meltdown, questioning her fellow judges' sanity.

The Bad

Phong Vu, tearfully expresses his desire to be the best American idol ever, he auditioned with Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart.” And yes this performance was heartbreakingly painful to watch, moving on.

The Strange

Alejandro Gonzales is looking to bring the “revolution,” where the underdog prevails. “A world where Lady Gaga can become a platinum selling artist, and Barak Obama can become president.” Leading Steven to ask, “isn’t that the world we’re living in?” It’s scary when Steven Tyler is the voice of reason. He auditioned with “Looking Up,” by Paramore, let’s just say he didn’t make the cut and move on.

When all was said and done a whopping 54 contestants made the grade! Next week the judges will move on to Oregon, so be sure to check back here for all of the highlights.
