American Idol 11 Auditions Recap: San Diego

Sunday night The American Idol crew headed to San Diego, for a special night of auditions. So will our new champion be in the crowd? Let’s find out, shall we?
The Good
Single mother and DJ, Ashley Robles auditioned with the dreaded Whitney Houston song “I will Always Love You.” That was the bad news, the good news is that the girl can sing! We may have another contender, keep your eyes peeled for Ashley in Hollywood.
Songwriter Jayrah Gibson sang an original song that impressed the judges, sending him to Hollywood.
20 year old Aubree Deckmyrer wasn’t sure which reality show she was auditioning for, saying she was hoping to become America’s next top model, she auditioned with Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” She had a jazzy feel to her voice, which was pleasant, however she’s the type of contestant that may be eaten alive in this competition.
The very goofy but adorable Ali Shields appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after writing a song for her. Ellen then sent the very personable Ali to interview celebrities at the American Music awards, where Ali spent her time kissing as many of the male musicians as possible. Ali starts off by rapping for the judges, but eventually won herself a ticket to Hollywood after she sang a Corrine Bailey Rae song. Not sure about the talent, but you couldn’t find a more likable gal.
19 year old frat boy Kyle Crews auditioned to “Angel of Mine,” by Monica. He gave a soulful audition that Tyler claimed was the best male voice they’ve heard. Kyle’s heading to Hollywood.
Jim Carrey’s daughter, Jane, showed up at the auditions. She auditioned with “Something to Talk About,” and though she seemed nervous, and to be honest not quite ready for this competition, she made it to Hollywood.
Jason Hamlin aka Wolf, whose father made him a guitar 3 years ago before passing, thereby starting Wolf on his musical path, initially auditioned with Creedence Clearwater Revival's “Midnight Special.” However, the judges remained unconvinced until Wolf picked up his guitar and sang “Folsom Prison Blues,” which sealed the deal sending him to Hollywood.
The Bad
Jennifer Diley arrived dressed to impress the male judges, and hoping to win them over with what I think is a bikini, or the smallest shorts the world has ever seen. She auditioned to “With You,” by Jessica Simpson, and the word that comes to mind is monotone. When the judges unanimously reject her she begs to sing “Hero,” by Mariah Carey, lord help us. We won’t be seeing Jennifer again.
When all was said and done 53 hopefuls were given their tickets to Hollywood. On Wednesday night the gang will head to Aspen, Colorado, be sure to check back here for all the highlights.
