So You Think You Can Dance News: A new format for summer 2012?
Jan 01 2012 11:09 am ET

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer and head judge on Fox's So You Think You Can Dance, announced on Twitter Sunday that the network has cancelled the results show, though the program is continuing.

The tweet reads as follows: "#FOX have cancelled the results show so I will have to change the format of #SYTYCD. At least we have another season at the end of MAY."

If this is true, it comes as a surprise given Fox's programming model. SYTYCD has aired Wednesday/Thursday for the last several summers. Last year, American Idol shifted to Wednesday/Thursday to continue the programming style and allow for flow into the Fall season of The X Factor, also on Wednesday/Thursday.

The SYTYCD franchise has hit on hard times in the last year. The UK and Canadian versions were cancelled in 2011 and the US version suffered a major drop in ratings. However, the program has won several Emmy Awards for choreography and was nominated for Best Competitive Reality Series along with Best Host for Cat Deeley.
