Survivor South Pacific Recap: Free Agent
Last week people decided that maybe they should play the game and not allow Ozzy to rule them, so the misfits managed to get the good looking people to vote out Elyse. Ozzy wasn't happy to say the least.
The tribe returned to Savaii and Ozzy was upset. How could Keith and Whitney not vote with Ozzy and not get dirty hands? Ozzy announced that he's going to be a free agent. Keith and Whitney got defensive but Ozzy announced his idol and how he would be amazing at redemption. While Yul was amazing at using the (previously over-powered) Hidden Immunity Idol, I'm still not sure Ozzy knows now to use the idol correctly.
In the morning, Ozzy went fishing and continued to provide as he talked with a scuba mask on. The rest of the tribe was upset with Ozzy's hissy fit. Cochran hoped that his crybaby antics continue because it made Cochran look like less of a baby.
Upolu woke up to happiness, which meant in editing terms something was about to go down. Coach was happy to have all the cards on the table. Brandon decided to wander around looking for a clue. He managed to find a tree and find the clue. Coach played shock and decided that not telling Brandon was still Christian. Albert and Coach agreed not to tell Brandon. Flashback to a quick shot of Russell walking like a troll just for a good laugh.
At Redemption Island Arena Sophie & Rick and Ozzy & Keith watched the shuffleboard battle between Elyse and Christine. Christine was in tears because she's been broken by redemption. I think that was her cue to find God or start learning about destiny. Maybe Elyse could have taught her how to channel her local turtle spirits. The game was a simple last puck standing. After a slow opening and some tense music, the pucks separated in half which was odd since, the pucks were arranged the same. Elyse accidentally sunk her own puck, but the game eventually went down to one puck that Christine sunk. She survived another duel, blurred middle finger and all.
Sophie and Rick knew that Christine was still upset with Upolu. Edna tried her best to keep her alliances up by strengthening her ties with Coach. She tried to get to keep Coach around; he felt comfortable for Coach. He suggested voting out Mikayla. Coach started heating up some random meat while talking to Edna. He started asking her things like "Would you go to battle with me?" I expected the next step was him branding her with the fishing spear.
Ozzy talked to Savaii and realized that he was a whiny bitch. He talked to Keith about continuing working together. I guess his vote for Dawn did work. He asked the group for forgiveness. Jim just saw this as an opportunity for him to not have a target on his back.
The tribe arrived at their immunity/reward challenge. This week the challenge was a wheelbarrow obstacle course and a coconut/slingshot target shooting section. I miss full obstacle courses. The prize was for the contestants to go to a natural water slide. Upolu sat Edna out. The first leg began with Brandon/Rick/Sophie against Cochran/Ozzy/Dawn. Upolu got a rhythm going whereas Ozzy and Dawn were drunk driving, hitting every bump along the way. They switched over to Albert/Coach/Mikayla. By the time Keith/Whitney/Jim started, Upolu only had one target down. There went the lead Coach tried to sit Mikayla down, but she rejected his suggestions. Savaii managed a win after that and it seems like the seed was planted that Mikayla was useless.
Savaii celebrated their come from behind victory. Sadly if the challenge didn't have a second, totally different section, they would have lost completely. Ozzy was happy that his tribe won. Cochran admitted to being a nervous swimmer, but he went down the moss slide without any drama and continued to go down several other times. I hope his insurance covers "moss covered rock" accidents.
The depressed Upolu returned and Coach was convinced that Mikayla should go home because she didn't listen to Coach. Albert talked to Mikayla and was convinced he could turn the tides. He talked to Rick and Sophie and knew that Edna was too smart to not realize that she's on the outer shell. Albert and Sophie talked to Brandon and he's magically changed to supporting Mikayla; so he's going to vote for Mikayla. What? Between Brandon and Shannon on America's Next Top Model, Christians are getting a bad rep this fall season. Coach talked to Albert and while Mikayla didn't listen to him, Edna would blindly follow Coach. Coach then tried to talk to Rick about Edna. This left our cowboy in the middle.
The tribe arrived at council and Coach tried to throw Mikayla under the bus. With merge fears kicking in Brandon explained that loyalty was the most important key. Albert was convinced that numbers were important. After the Mikayla=Strength versus Edna=Loyalty issue, Brandon decided to suggest voting him out. If only the editing powers that be would have allowed us to have Brandon disappear. We were down to the cowboy all the way at the end. Coach was smart enough to hold on to his idol. The vote ended up 4-3 with Mikayla going home. Coach whispered his love to Brandon and Brandon mimicked the message. What an awkward choice of a close.
Next Week: Ozzy and Brandon are both expendable players. But the two of them would make for an interesting Redemption Island duel.
