Survivor: South Pacific Recap: Survivalism

Last Week: Brandon was going crazy. Like Russell crazy. Luckily, they won immunity which left Papa Bear on Redemption Island.
Savaii woke up to a new day; Elyse talked to Ozzy about "survivalism" which made Jim nervous about his position. He decided to talk to Cochran and convinced him about getting rid of Elyse to keep Ozzy solid. Cochran was ready to survive an extra few days. At least he's taking the competition day by day.
Ominous bells rang for Brandon and continued to talk about how much of a struggle life is. It's hysterical that his tag still hasn't changed from "Russell Hantz's Nephew" as if that is a full time job. He tried to apologize to Mikayla which now his God-fearing ways make him look almost as two-faced as his uncle. Why ask for forgiveness when you could show that you're sorry through good deeds? Brandon tried to talk to Edna about how he's lied and admitted that Edna was the last peel of the onion. Damn these Onion Alliance references. Edna felt terrible being told the truth.
A tree mail arrived and the contestants got their swimwear. The producers are asses for creating a water-based challenge last week. All they are doing is spending extra money on blurring out bulges and cracks. Along with the swimwear was the invitation to Redemption Island. Cochran and Jim decided to go even though Jim had reservations for looking like they'd form an alliance. The girls emerged looking hotter than ever because of the bathing suits. Old woman Dawn was already intimidated by her out casted ways. Jim talked to Elyse and Ozzy about looking weak for the other tribe. Ozzy thought he was thinking too hard. Dawn didn't think that Ozzy wasn't strategizing; rather that Ozzy did it at other times. Or the fact that in previous seasons Yul and Parvati did a lot of the work.
Christine and Papa Bear arrived for their redemption. Papa Bear admitted that he'd jump ship, but even the other tribe would have expected it. Brandon tried to apologize to Christine, but Christine raised her eyebrow in amusement. The challenge was a sandbag/aiming challenge. The challenge wasn't visually amazing, but Christine had an early lead. One could look at the ground and clearly they missed a lot of sandbags but this was edited to look like Papa Bear was keeping up with Dawn. Eventually with the dramatics of the show, the bags were 9-9 and Christine got her last bag in. Papa Bear was eliminated, but happy to have his adventure.
Day 10, Upolu sipped some coffee as Edna didn't want to rustle feathers. She knew that social game was her only factor so she decided to turn her talk switch on and wouldn't stop. Stacey only looked on at her like Edna was going to be strangled by the fibers of a coconut. Mikayla wanted Edna to shut up. Her strategy clearly didn't work for the women, but since we never really met Albert or Rick, we don't know the effects on them
Cochran talked to Dawn about strategy and tried to steer Dawn of getting rid of Elyse, Dawn made it sound like she'd do whatever Cochran wanted at this point to give her another three days.
The teams arrived at the immunity/reward challenge without any mail giving us any heads up. The challenge was a Survivor staple: the pole/weight endurance challenge. Last person standing wins immunity for the tribe and they get to win a rooster and two hens. The teams would have to pick two men and one woman.
Savaii - Keith, Dawn, Jim
Upolu - Brandon, Stacey, Albert
The process was that teams would get 20 pounds of bags per round. We go through some early weight spreading strategy until we fast-forward montage through the contestants holding a lot of weight. After about 30 minutes Keith dropped at 180 lbs. Somehow Albert stumbled and fell off. Luckily there were no cameras really focused on him because at this point I question if Albert exists. Jim and Brandon were at 240 lbs. which meant there was a new Survivor record, even though both fell. Dawn and Stacy were the final two and both were slowly loaded up with weight. Dawn managed to get some help as the weight was somewhat spread out for her to readjust. Did you see Dawn's knees? They looked like sausages as they squished under the pressure. She was in tears as Stacey finally caved. Dawn was excited to be useful and she survived another three days.
When Upolu returned, Stacey knew she did a good job, but she hoped that she physically showed her strength. Coach tried to be positive about the situation and coach. Edna was worried that she was the weakest link; she talked to Stacey about it and basically planted the seed for Stacey to vote out Edna. Dumbass. Coach talked to Stacey and she did plead her case about pulling her weight. Stacey was a better player than I expected and she decided to convince Brandon that paranoia was important. Brandon was so paranoid, he turned to Coach. Coach stopped him from making a stupid decision. Brandon said "I tend to be a good judge of character." Sophie was smart enough to realize Brandon should be going soon.
The tribe arrived at Tribal Council and Stacey admitted to being strong. Coach managed to use "warrior spirit" in a sentence to make Stacey sound useful. With that statement, you knew it was Stacey going home. Sophie tried to explain strength both as numbers and power. Jeff suggested group therapy and Rick, who finally had something to say this episode, called out Albert about snoring, and then Brandon pointed out that Edna talks too much. She disagreed and then called Stacey a closed clam. Mikayla admitted that Brandon was a Hantz by blood. He turned to tears and talked about God being disappointed in him. The tribe went and voted one by one and even with a bit of misdirection from editing the vote went 7-1 to Stacey. The tribe tried to hug her and she shot them down. Really, a hug?
Next Week: Coach is actually called Benjamin. Cochran talked about possibly getting herpes from sharing spit with some of the good looking people. Or Dawn.
