Survivor South Pacific Recap: He Has Demons

When we last left the Coach Show, we reminded that Christine had too much of an attitude and Brandon was too worried about being a Hantz. Semhar was sent to Redemption Island as she read the basic instructions. Again, like last season, there wasn't anything changed to the directions. She did some poetry by herself to make her feel better, set to a crab watching confused. He didn’t applaud.
Savaii returned from their first tribal and Cochran was thankful for his second chance. He knew he had to be mellow instead of as antsy as he was. Ozzy was excited about the challenges and they hoped that puzzles would start to emerge. He considered an alliance with Keith.
Coach talked to Edna about being on the outs. He knew that he had a "solid" alliance with Rick, Sophie, Albert, and Brandon; he had an outside alliance with Edna. She pointed out that Stacey was with Christine. In her interview, Edna sported a clue as a visor and talked about supporting coach. Maybe she could play crazy and just walk around with a paper on her head. Coach was convinced that loyalty was stronger than strength.
Cochran tried his hardest to cut a coconut open; his mother would be paranoid and worried that he'd chop a finger. As a viewer, I’m worried that he’d chop a finger. Keith drank some of Cochran's "child." Ozzy wandered away to fish as he kept his eyes peeled for a clue. As he wandered, he spotted an odd shaped tree with a rock and found the hidden immunity idol. Wow, why don’t we paint the rock yellow next time? He hid the idol up a tree and hoped that this time, he won't be blindsided.
Coach was feeling great and tried to cuddle with Brandon the night before. Brandon wanted to play with honor and integrity so he finally admitted to Coach that he is Russell's nephew. Coach's jaw dropped down to the blur on his crotch. Brandon tried his best to reassure Coach that he had honor and God on his side.
No one was suspicious at Savaii for Ozzy trying to catch fish but wandering off to the jungle a few hours ago as the guys go fishing. Again. The guys left as the girls joked around about doing laundry. Jim suggested a "3+2" plan where Ozzy, Keith, and Jim would be the main alliance and then Elyse and Whitney would be the outer circle. Like an onion. Luckily, Keith already had an alliance with Ozzy, so Jim looked like the ring leader.
Upolu decided to go fishing and Mikalya went with the men because she wanted to be part of the guys. Brandon was nervous about Mikalya because she was using her "Parvati" ways. He sounded creepy with his dislike of Mikalya because from what we see, none of it is justified. Christine tried her best to look for the clue; she eventually found the clue that Stacey passed. The clue told her nothing.
The contestants went to their Immunity/Reward challenge. The first part involved a reverse maypole and a traffic jam style puzzle challenge. The reward were blankets and pillows. Edna sat out. The reverse maypole was a bit harder than I expected. The Renaissance Faire made this look really easy going in the other direction. Upolu unlocked the lock with a lot of time for the men to figure out the boxes, which they squandered instead. The Savaii men caught up by pushing as hard and fast as possible. After some brute pushing, Savaii had a come-from-behind victory.
Upolu returned and while Coach commended the women, Christine was upset with the men doing the challenge. Coach thought of voting three/three/three between Christine and Stacey in hopes that he could flush the immunity idol. Wait, how did Christine and Stacey have three votes together? As much as we never got Mikayla’s strategy, I doubt it was “Follow Christine and Stacey.”
Brandon was nervous about Mikayla because of his wife and family. Even Coach knew that Brandon had demons. Sophie was worried that she's next if Brandon was pushing for voting strong women. I wish I had that self-esteem. Mikalya and Stacey walked towards the group dispersing them. Edna was confronted by Christine and she mumbled her way in a bad loss. Brandon tried to convince Christine to vote Mikayla. Coach realized that Brandon was showing Russell characteristics with his "I don't like you" voting strategy.
After the torch lighting ceremony, Brandon was happy about his first impression. Coach immediately laid down the information that Stacey and Christine would vote for Mikayla. Coach tried his best to defend Mikayla; Mikayla was surprised. Immediately Stacey and Christine were defensive about the situation. Albert chimed in about loyalty. Who's Albert again? Christine reiterated that Coach is dispensable. Brandon admitted to telling the girls to vote for Mikayla.
After voting and the fact that Christine found a clue, but no idol, Jeff read the votes. The forced tie strategy didn't happen as Christine was voted off in a 4-3-1-1 vote. Why Christine and Stacey didn't vote the same was beyond me. If they voted Mikayla, then they had an outside shot of Brandon voting Mikayla.
Next Week: Ozzy looking suspicious. Brandon cried about his pigeonhole. You knew what you signed up for Mr. Hantz.
