Modern Family's Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell win Supporting Acting Emmy Awards

Modern Family opened the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards with two big wins in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress for a Comedy categories. Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, who are husband and wife on-screen, were the winners.
Julie Bowen won the first award of the evening for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for the role of Claire Dunphy on ABC's Modern Family. This is her first win. She thanked the writers, her TV husband Ty Burrell, and her real husband Scott Phillips.
Moments later, Ty Burrell won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his role as Phil Dunphy. In his thank you speech, he spoke of his departed father who never had the chance to see him perform.
The bulk of Modern Family's nomination were in the supporting acting categories. Sophia Vergara was a fellow nominee in Outstanding Supporting Actress, while Ed O'Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and last year's winner Eric Stonestreet were nominated for Best Support Actor.
