Thursday Ratings: Fox wins, but Idol slide may be on the horizon

With no promotion of the "shocking" and "surprising" boot on American Idol, the show turned in low ratings this week. Fox still won the night, but CBS was the only competition with a full slate of fresh programs.
Fox took the top spot Thursday night, led by American Idol. The chaotic results show, including the surprising boot of Pia Toscano, scored a 6.2 (-0.6) and 20.6 million viewers – 2 million fewer than last week. Ryan Seacrest's plea at the end of the show asking viewers to stay with the show this season may be predicting some huge news this time next week. Bones maintained its post-Idol groove, scoring a 3.4 (+0.1, three weeks).
CBS finished in second place.The Big Bang Theory dipped slightly to 2.6 (-0.1) while Rules of Engagement grew to a 2.5 (+0.1). CSI held steady at 2.9. The Mentalist was the most-watched scripted show with 14.68 million viewers and a score of 2.9 (+0.1).
Univision took third place. Thursday's Eva Luna was the most-watched program so far in Univision primetime this week, gathering 4.54 million viewers. NBC was fourth, with everything in reruns except the finale of Perfect Couples (1.0, flat) and Outsourced (1.3, -0.2, two weeks). ABC was all reruns. The CW returned with The Vampire Diaries (1.2) and Nikita (0.7).
