Wednesday Ratings: Idol drops; Modern Family, CBS dramas hit
Fox won Wednesday night, though Idol took a noticeable hit in the numbers. Modern Family returned big, giving a boost to Mr. Sunshine. Not to be outdone, the dramas of CBS had their best night of 2011 so far.
The last audition episode of 'American Idol' experienced a sharp drop this week, scoring an 8.3 (-0.7) and falling to 23.67 million viewers. Prehaps the move to Hollywood week will perk up tonight's numbers. 'Human Target' also slipped, scoring a 2.4 (-0.2) with 8.3 million viewers.
The number two show of the night was ABC's 'Modern Family'. The Valentine's Day episode scored a 5.0 (+0.4, 3 weeks), the highest rating the sophomore comedy has received since its Halloween episode. The premiere of 'Mr. Sunshine' benefited from this boost, scoring an impressive 3.7 with 10.57 million watching.
Also scoring a 3.7 (and tied as the number three show of the night): 'Criminal Minds'. This number is up 0.5 from its last new episode two week ago. The show was the second most-watched show of the night with 14.32 million viewers. 'Live to Dance', which aired earlier in the evening, was flat week-to-week. 'Blue Bloods' closed out the night with a 2.3 (+0.7) and 12.45 million viewers, the show's best numbers since taking over the Wednesday 10pm slot.
Over on NBC, two hours of 'Minute to Win It' averaged a 1.8 (-0.6) with just over 6 million viewers. 'Law & Order: SVU' won the late hour with a 2.6 (-0.3) and 8.09 million viewers.
