Big Brother 12 Recap: Can I Veto the singing clam?

Wednesday on Big Brother, a singing clam determines who wins the Power of Veto, sock puppets get censored, and the Houseguests are not fans of dance parties. This is the part of the season called "filler".
Previously, Ragan figured out that there was an alliance of four guys in the house, which is bad news when there are only seven people left in the game. A double eviction brought down that number, with Matt and Brendon sent packing. Lane won Head of Household which game him the opportunity to open Pandora's Box. Although his payoff wasn't great, the house is now subject to three punishments. Enzo and Ragan received a fourth punishment: they were nominated for eviction.
We join the house after nominations on Day 56. Ragan and Enzo sulk together in the Redroom. They both agree that being nominated is less than ideal. Ragan DR's that it is probably less ideal for Enzo because now he knows that he is odd man out in what remains of the Brigade.
Later that evening, the house has a ceremony to "shun the Penguin Costume." The Houseguests keep chanting "shun" and use the word in ways that suggest they may not actually understand what the word means. The real significance of this event is that Enzo is the first Houseguest who has received a costume punishment to not be evicted while wearing said costume.
We see Ragan studying everything he can for the Veto competition. Usually around this time they have the creepy "if they mated" competition, so Ragan is focusing on all the Houseguests' facial features. "Kathy has tarantula eyes...Andrew has beady eyes...Kristen has chipmunk cheeks," he murmurs. Hehe. Unfortunately, the studying is in vain. The contestants go out to the backyard and see a giant clam that bears an alarming resemblance to Mayor McCheese. It starts singing at them, saying that his name is "Otev" (get it?).
In this challenge, the clam will sing a song about two evicted Houseguests. The players have to find one of the compact discs scattered around the yard with a hybrid of the names of the two song subjects. If a Houseguest is wrong or they are the last to return a disc to Otev, they will be eliminated. Ready? Follow the
The first song mentions the $10,000 winner in the first HoH competition (Monet) and the Diamond PoV holder (Matt). Lane just squeaks past Ragan, but his answer of "Mochel" knocks him out of the competition. Hayden is the last to return with "Rasten", the hit single about hair extensions and the hippie-tard (Rachel and Kristen, respectively), and is eliminated. Britney knew Matt won the Hang Ten HoH and Kathy won the duct tape Have Not competition, but she was last to return with the "Mathy" disc. Michigan J. Clam shows no sympathy.
Enzo and Ragan, the two nominees, are the only ones left. The last song is about Brendon and Andrew. Both players dive for the disc. Britney demands a slow motion replay in the Diary Room, so we are treated to the dive that awarded Enzo the Veto. Ragan throws his disc at the clam and it bounces off, hitting Enzo in the head.
Later, Ragan has locked himself in the cabana room to sulk while Enzo struts around gloating. Britney and Hayden think the situation is hilarious, then they discuss who they think Lane will put up in Enzo's place. Hayden thinks it will probably be him. Neither of them want to bug Lane, but Britney goes up to the HoH room to secure her position. As she talks with Lane, Hayden chats with Enzo about wanting Britney on the block. They cut to a shot of Ragan and he looks exactly like Corky St. Claire in the bathtub after he quits Red, White and Blaine.
Remember how the house is going to be subjected to three punishments this week? The second punishment requires the houseguests to speak exclusively through sock puppets for 12 hours. It's stupid except for two things: the editors blur out both Enzo and his puppet's mouth when he drops a few f-bombs complaining about golf (hehe) and Ragan commits to using the puppet even while delivering soliloquies about his inevitable demise.
The third punishment is more my speed: impromptu dance parties! For the following twelve hours, Big Brother will hit one of the music sample buttons on the house Casio keyboard and the the Houseguests must stop what they are doing and dance. Not quite as good as the final episode of 'Extras', but as punishments go this was pretty entertaining.
Hayden and Britney both try to work Lane over his nomination. Britney makes the most convincing argument, saying that the Jury would probably pick Hayden over Lane if they are the Final Two. At the Veto ceremony, Enzo saves himself and Hayden is selected as the replacement. Lane DR's that he wants to go to Final Two with Britney.
Tomorrow night: Hayden or Ragan will join the Jury. The one who survives joins Lane, Enzo and Britney in the Final Four. Also, our Live Coverage returns -- you can sign up below to receive a reminder e-mail to watch with us. Hope to see you there!
