Big Brother 12 Recap: Head of Household and Boredom - together at last
Aug 30 2010 12:18 am ET

On Sunday’s ‘Big Brother’, a new Head of Household is selected and opens Pandora’s Box, making life annoying for the other Houseguests. Two of the remaining five Houseguests are nominated for eviction.

Previously, Ragan figured out the Brigade alliance before Matt was evicted. However, Matt wasn’t the only Houseguest evicted Thursday because it was a double eviction episode. Hayden won Head of Household and nominated Ragan and Brendon. Ragan won Power of Veto and saved himself. Brendon, who was originally the pawn, ended up passing that responsibility to Britney when she found herself as the replacement nominee. Brendon was evicted soon after.

Fortunately for me, the first segment of the show was essentially the Cliff’s Notes version of Day 56 in the house, which we all saw on Thursday. So I won’t go over it again.

After the first commercial, we join the Houseguests as they compete for Head of Household. Basically, each Houseguest had to roll a ball down a seesaw and try to launch the ball into a cubbyhole with a playing card. The players have five shots to match two specific playing cards. In the first round Lane, Ragan and Enzo matched both cards and knocked out Britney who only managed to match one. In round two, Enzo failed to match either card, so Ragan (who needs a win to survive) and Lane (who wanted to throw the competition) move on to the final round. Lane matched his second card on his last shot of the final round. Ragan matched his first card on shot four but missed on shot five, making Lane the new HoH.

During the HoH room tour, the Houseguests get to see pictures of Lane’s family and hear the letter they wrote for Lane. A lot of information was revealed, such as the fact that Lane is more of a professional schmoozer for his dad’s oil company rather than a worker on a rig. Later on, Britney and Hayden chat on the hammock. She reveals that if she doesn’t make it to final two, she would like Hayden and Lane to be up there. Hayden guesses that she would vote for Lane, but she hints that she might not since he apparently doesn’t really need the money.

Lane enters the HoH room and finds a Pandora’s Box offer. This week’s temptation is a money tree that Lane is more than happy to climb. The tree has a total of $10,000 up for grabs and he gets to choose three envelopes. However, the house will receive three punishments in return. Lane’s three envelopes are worth $79, $12, and 17 cents for a total of $91.17. Wah wah. He goes downstairs to tell his housemates what happened are they do appear all that enthusiastic. We soon see punishment number one: No utensils or cups for a week. Speaking from experience, that gets old really fast.

We see some strategizing about nominations. Britney obviously doesn’t want to go up and tells Lane that she might not take Ragan off the block if she won the Veto. Lane tells her he won’t put up Hayden but does not promise that he won’t put her up. Britney is a little miffed about this but does have any extreme outburst. Later on, Enzo tells Lane to just put up Ragan and Britney and be done with it. Lane asks his cohorts if either of them wants to be a pawn.

When nominations come around, Lane decides that Britney and Hayden will be safe, meaning Ragan and Enzo are on the block. Ragan is not surprised and has pretty much accepted the fact that he is fighting by himself at this point. Enzo is not all that sympathetic with Lane’s dilemma and would have preferred Lane to put up Britney instead. Lane DR’s that Enzo is the only remaining Houseguest who hasn’t won a solo competition, so maybe he doesn’t deserve to stick around.

Next time: The Power of Veto and Pandora’s Box punishment number two.
