Jim Parsons wins Emmy Award for Best Comedy Actor
Aug 29 2010 08:47 pm ET

The 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series went to Jim Parsons of CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

Parsons' victory was slightly unexpected as the actor had competition from fellow nominees Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Matthew Morrison of Glee, Tony Shalhoub of Monk, Steve Carell of The Office and Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock.

Parsons, 37, forms part of The Big Bang Theory's core cast since the show's debut in 2007, and his highly intelligent but socially challenged character Sheldon Cooper soon became one of the most popular on television.

Before The Big Bang Theory, Parsons featured in shows as Ed and Judging Amy.

This was the second consecutive Emmy nomination for Parsons, and his first win.
